Exposition Hour: Where In The World Is Gustavo Fring
HEY FOLKS Ellis here so in case everyone forgot I am still in fact playing Breaking Bad's undead Gus Fring. I've been neglecting the poor asshole for a while and I'm about to make a main community post to help inject some life back into him. But in the meantime, what the heck has he been up to?! There WAS a plan, a very detailed plan in fact, but instead of consigning myself and other involved parties to a lifetime of backdating hell, I'm just gonna plainly state the rundown here, as approved by aforementioned involved parties.
First, here's what's been threaded:
May 12th: Gus arrives, meets Jennifer and gets registered with ROMAC
May 12th, a little later: Journalside post in which Gus settles into his new home and confirms that he's not where he was
That Same Night: Gus meets Cecil in Topher's dreamhouse, recognizes a semi-kindred spirit, as well as someone he can probably manipulate pretty easily, vague plans are made to get Cecil a radio show
May 13th: Gus contacts Cecil after discovering his name in the ROMAC registry; They meet to discuss business.
And here's what's been unthreaded:
Sometime between May 13th and May 23rd, Gus uses his impressive corporate business background and persuasiony skillset to get himself a position within ROMAC as an HR consultant. As he continues to get to know Cecil, he inadvertantly discovers Cecil's Rift-granted capacity for induced belief. Instead of doing the gentlemanly thing, like telling Cecil about this, he decides to use it to their mutual (but mostly his own) advantage, carefully manipulating Cecil into convincing certain people of things over the phone. Like, for example, "a radio program might be just the thing ROMAC needs to reach a greater audience and create a sense of community within the Rift, well, community."
Which actually isn't that bad of an idea.
So, by the time Intern Dana arrives, we're collectively assuming that Cecil has a radio program sponsored by ROMAC, of which Gus is the program director. Broadcasts are probably pretty straightforward so far. You haven't missed much.
Naturally Cecil's going to convince Gus (with puppy eyes, this time, not his powers that he still doesn't know about) that Intern Dana should be his intern and/or field reporter. Gus is not SUPER thrilled about this because Dana seems harder to trick than Cecil (not the least because she's not Gus's, er, "type") but oh well.
Some of this may still get threaded, but as for now we're all thinking we'd rather just move forward.
Gus has done a great job keeping to himself so far, largely because he still thinks this whole Rift business is pretty dubious, so as of right now, he only really knows Jennifer and the Quarkbeast, Cecil, Dana, and some nameless ROMAC employees. The new post I'll be putting up is gonna be open to multiple, so if you want your character to meet Gus, keep an eye out. Bear in mind that he's a tough nut to crack and if he doesn't think your character has anything to offer him, he's not gonna be too friendly. But it doesn't hurt to try.
