the status is not quo
Hey, it's Kathryn here to tell you about a status quo shift that mostly just affects me but needs to be laid out in the open so it's clear. As some of you know, Andrew's romantic partner, James, was dropped from the game some time ago, but in the interest of not completely destroying the little family we'd put together, Krissy and I didn't have him disappear from Manhattan. We're making an adjustment now to allow James to continue to exist in the background while providing an excuse for him to not be active in plot events, and this should help me get Andrew out and about more.
On July 25, the rift rescinded one of James's abilities: the ability to stay merged as a single person. James's power had previously allowed him to split into the three personalities that make up his psyche (the fifth Doctor; the post-Time War Master; and Ambrose, a.k.a. that part of his personality that's not a copy of someone else). Now it forces him to do that at all time, and the Master portion of James reacted by attempting to flee Manhattan, wanting to stay separate from the other two.
Unfortunately-ish, ROMAC had better border patrol than the Master gave them credit for and they picked him up as he tried to leave. The other parts of James (along with Andrew) tracked him to the base, but their attempt to steal him back was unsuccessful, especially when it turned out he couldn't stay merged on his own. What they found, though, is that James can stay a single person if he's in the presence of a power-inhibiting field similar to the ones used in some of the cells in the prison portion of the ROMAC base. Some fast talking and playing dumb/innocent later, Andrew and James are now registered with ROMAC and living in a base apartment with such a field generator present. Now Andrew gets to try to prevent each faction from learning of their involvement with the other. Eventually they might be able to set up a generator in their apartment and move back out of the base (unless ROMAC finds out about the whole rebel thing and decides to use Andrew's family as leverage to get him to act as a double agent, whoops).
So that's where things stand right now with Andrew -- we'll say they've been moved into a space at the base by July 27. I'd love to play out some aftermath, like having to deal with ROMAC-aligned characters, trying to get word to rebel-aligned characters without giving too much away, etc.
