Upcoming Event: Curses!

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Whenever You're Reading This/Time Is An Illusion!

When your characters wake up on the morning of August 27th, 2013 (March 19th for those playing along at home), they will immediately notice something wrong. Or maybe they won't. Maybe something weird will happen when they bite into their breakfast, or attempt to speak, or wander into the woods park. But weird things are going to happen to rifties all over Manhattan, and the theme is going to be distinctly fairy tale. Everybody is going to find themselves cursed, Grimm-style.

Here are some ideas that we've brainstormed/researched, though you don't have to choose from the list if you have other mischief in mind. Also, feel free to use 'enchanted slumber' as an opt-out if you want to keep one or more of your characters out of the action.


- Lose your voice
- Can't speak without small animals, jewels, or other assorted objects falling from your mouth
- Can't stop dancing
- Hand stuck to a goose
- Small animal/object tells others your most shameful secrets or innermost thoughts
- Giant toad sits on face, demands to be fed or it will eat your face
- Turned into some kind of animal
- Turned into stone, a tree, or some other kind of inanimate object
- Forget your true love
- Entangled in brambles
- Lost in a forest
- Your tears turn into something else (diamonds, etc)
- Everything you touch turns to gold or some other thing/material
- You always tell the truth
- You aways lie
- Aged way up
- Aged way down
- Everything you eat tastes like one thing
- You become obsessed with eating just one thing
- Feels as if you're walking on broken glass all the time
- Sized up
- Sized down
- Trapped in a mirror/only visible in reflections
- Everything you say comes true
- Everything you draw comes to life
- Your body literally falls apart, but in a non-fatal kind of way (limbs can be reattached)
- FREE SPACE seriously just make something up

Can your character break whatever curse has been laid upon them? Maybe! It's really up to you. If they can't figure it out, at least they'll only have to deal with it until sunset. Which, on that particular date, should hit at 7:37 PM. At that point, any bizarre afflictions your character has been dealing with will vanish.

Okay folks, just so you know, there are going to be TWO DAINES during this nonsense - one suffering a curse and one a product of a curse. So if you want to interact with a Daine who either is or isn't spewing small animals whenever she tries to talk, HIT ME UP and we can try to arrange something.

Seth is gonna be very annoyed because he is A CAT, so finding someone telepathic or who can speak to animals might be something he'd want to do?? Though given he can still understand human persons, I'm not sure yet. And also cause he can very painstakingly type on a laptop with his cat paws.

I'm bringing in this lying liar and she is only going to be able to tell the truth! I haven't decided yet what sort of curse her familiar might get. He might turn into a different animal, just for kicks.

ETA: I'm kind of still working on phasing Andrew out, so I don't know that I'm going to do anything in particular with him for this event unless I can get it to line up/double up with one of the other threads I need to do for him to prepare for his grand exit. Still haven't chosen for Rashad or Peter yet, either -- one of the big ideas for Peter was to have his hand stuck to a goose, but making it so he feels like he's walking on glass would result in a delightfully pissy Peter teleporting everywhere on his butt. Rashad...well, he's not going to be upset, so I might as well just turn him into something fun or trap him in a mirror or another object.

As much as I love torturing Rush writing conflicts, we'd have to think about what would actually happen there -- if Rush has a way to get away from him or not, if anyone else could do anything about it, some vague idea of what kind of outcome we'd want....

True true. Hmmmm not sure how one would break the mirror curse either cause it's not really like either of them have a true love to speak of and that's the general curse-breaker. Otherwise it'd just be a day of mirror-chasing, which could be interesting but wouldn't have a whole lot of variation

Maybe every time Rashad touches an object it sticks to him and he gets stuck to Rush's mirror? Except then you'd think he'd just be stuck to the floor all day. Also he might get turned into a book by Aziraphale, which I suppose would at least stop the katamari in progress.

Oh man, that's right -- if Aziraphale touches any of the other stuff he'd just have a giant book-ball on his hands. Or it might transfer through Rashad's amazing katamari powers! But then would Rush's mirror turn into a book? This seems problematic.

OKAY so here's what I got so far

-Johnny entangled in brambles, hanging out with Greta who will be lost in the park-woods

-Jay sized down and turning Tim's pocket lint into extremely tiny cameras??? Ollie and I are still sorting it out

-Iman is going to have an as-yet-undetermined object telling everyone her innermost secrets AKA if you want to find out about her big embarrassing crush on Greta line on up

-Bee ????? honestly I might opt her out, I have a hard time doing bad things to that poor kid

-Everything Aziraphale touches turns to BOOKS which is great except he can't have tea, wine, food, and he's going to be terrified of touching Melanie or anyone else. Also he can't read books without them turning into different books. His angel power will be temporarily unable to undo this book shit which is going to make him very annoyed. If you aren't feeling like doing anything with your character during this event and we want to REALLY upset him, we could talk about turning an actual person into a book. He'll flip.

Okay but what if we turned Melanie into a book tho. What if she could still communicate in a Riddle's-Diary-esque way by having whatever she wants to say just appear on the pages. What if she's like 'at least I can't hurt anyone this way.'

And also I don't know that he'd go to the bookstore if he did that? Maybe if he brought her with. Taking book Melanie on an adventure. WHAT IF SHE'S OUT WHEN SUNSET HAPPENS and then she's OUT and it's OKAY and she gets to see some of the city and it's like oh, that wasn't a disaster???

Also yeah I was definitely thinking that book'd people should still be able to thread as books. What if he turns someone else into a book. Then book people can hang out, being books.

Ahaha so we've decided that since Tim's whole shtick is that HE IS A LIAR (no really just look at his username) he's also gonna be truth-whammied. Which means anyone who asks about his super shady past is going to get at least some solid takeaways from it.

OKAY KIDS here is the rundown for my babies:

Daine is going to have frogs, toads, snakes, and other assorted small animals falling out of her mouth whenever she speaks aloud. Also, a second Daine is going to be produced via Peeta's sketchbook; she'll be normal except for the part where she's a curse-spawned copy. SHENANIGANS.

Sunshine is going to forget Spike exists, which given recent developments in their relationship, is probably just going to be a load off her mind. /sad trombone

Greta is going to get lost in the Ramble and hang with Johnny.

Melanie is going to get turned into a book and consequently taken on an outing in the Big City. ADORABLE.
