Hello, fritterlings!

You know what we haven't had in a while? A proper event, with shenanigans and goings on! To that end, we've decided to arrange a little something for everyone's collective entertainment.

Here's the plan, as it currently stands: on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 3rd (April 14th-17th IRL), Jack Frost is going to decide to whip up a little snow storm. Nothing too drastic, just enough to give the kids a snow day on Wednesday. It'll be fun, right? He's all about fun!

The Rift, unsurprisingly, will not be wholly on board with someone else having the temerity to dick around with the weather. But hey, if Jack wants a snowstorm so badly, the Rift can lend a metaphorical hand. As a result of the Rift's 'help,' Manhattan (and the surrounding boroughs) will get slammed by a truly atrocious blizzard. We're talking high winds ~~and space debris~~, low visibility, lots of snow, and the potential for spotty power outages - particularly around buildings that Rifties tend to frequent. ~~Probably just a coincidence.~~

The blizzard will continue throughout the night, leaving the city pretty well buried by morning. As the 4th wears on, the weather will warm, and the snow will start to melt. It'll be sloppy for the next several days, but atmospherically, things will return to normal.

What your characters get up to is largely up to you. The severity of the storm will make it difficult for most characters to carry on as if nothing is happening, but if they have enough food in the pantry to get them through 24 hours, they should be fine just waiting it out at home.

Otherwise, there are plenty of possibilities! Characters could get caught out in the sudden storm and need rescuing. Characters could hole up with a friend - or a stranger - and get snowed in for a while. Maybe the power goes out, and people have to huddle together for warmth. Maybe they're safe at home when the worst of it hits, and enjoy a nice romp in the snow the following day.

Feel free to use this post for brainstorming. When the event gets underway, we'll create an 'event: snow day' tag to track the assorted blizzard-related posts.

Hello, fritterlings!

Since the fall of the factions, the game has been a bit wanting in the antagonists department. Sure, the Rift is always there to jerk its toys around, but sometimes you get those manly urges and you just want to kill something. Or at least punch something. Or put something in a secure cell and painstakingly label it with your handheld label maker, neat and tidy-like.

Well, the ~~mods~~ Rift has heard your pleas, so it's gonna just start dropping monsters out onto the streets of Manhattan like a mascot firing t-shirts out of a cannon. Want to find one? Want one to find you? Do it.

What kind of monsters? It's up to you! Ollie has been compiling a list of potential beasties. Feel free to use one, or feel free to make one up.

Ground Rules:

1.) The monsters will be steered by the players encountering them as opposed to being mod-driven NPCs. This should save everyone time and hassle.
2.) Whether you're taking a monster off the list or making one up yourself, be sure it's added to the google doc, and to make a note of what you're doing under the 'status' column. This should prevent accidental doubling up, and just generally help us keep track of what's currently loose on the streets or smeared across an alley or what have you.
3.) Tag any monster-related shenanigans with the 'event: monster mash' tag. This will also help the mods, Ellis, and Ollie keep track of the beasties.

Comments? Questions? Ideas for monsters? Feel free to use this as a post to brainstorm horrors from the deep, etc.

So I think all of us need a little self-esteem boost and motivation once in a while, and I've been wanting to do this for ages.

Step 1: Tag in with a list of you you play as. (And previous characters too if you want.)

Step 2: Also include one thing you like about yourself, because self-love is important and I greatly encourage it.

Step 3: Reply to other people with stuff you love about them.

This could be anything, personal or purely RP related. Maybe you really love how someone plays a character, or think they have great idea for plots, or had a really good time with a thread with them, or just think they're a really cool person. Say so!

Hello, fritterlings. Here is the latest word on the faction takedowns.

On IG September 4th (technically now IRL, but we're going to backdate it a bit because inciting events are still happening and backdating is how we do, here), three things are going to happen.

Thing the first: Andrew, James & Co. are going to badger the Rift into letting them go home.
Thing the second: the Rift is going to throw an epic tantrum in response because hdu.
Thing the third: said tantrum will allow interested and motivated parties to go ahead and fork up ROMAC's ship, ultimately resulting in the faction's fall. ~~SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS that joke goes out to Lu I'm here all week tip your waitress.~~

Sometime in the next week(ish), two open posts will go up. One will be for general Rift shenanigans (this can take whatever form players choose; pretty much anything goes), and one will be for forking up ROMAC. Players are free to throw their characters into whichever scenario they feel like getting involved in. It'll be a hot mess.

Several days after the dust settles in the Citigroup tower (aka a couple weeks down the line in real time), it'll be the Rebels' turn for some ruction. Daine is largely going to be leading the charge on this one, but again, all will be welcome to get involved to whatever degree they so choose (though it's going to be presumed that anyone living in the base will be relocated, because the base is not gonna be livable by the time Daine's done with it). An open post will go up, much like with the Rift shenanigans/ROMAC takedown business.

The goal is to say that by IG September 10th/11th, everything will have calmed down and anyone rendered homeless by the ruction will have been resettled elsewhere. For the sake of convenience, the buildings that currently serve as the Rebel and ROMAC apartments will continue to function as rifty housing. They'll just lose their faction-specific affiliations.

Questions? Concerns? Comments? I am hopped up on DayQuil and ready to field them ineptly.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Whenever You're Reading This/Time Is An Illusion!

When your characters wake up on the morning of August 27th, 2013 (March 19th for those playing along at home), they will immediately notice something wrong. Or maybe they won't. Maybe something weird will happen when they bite into their breakfast, or attempt to speak, or wander into the ~~woods~~ park. But weird things are going to happen to rifties all over Manhattan, and the theme is going to be distinctly fairy tale. Everybody is going to find themselves cursed, Grimm-style.

Here are some ideas that we've brainstormed/researched, though you don't have to choose from the list if you have other mischief in mind. Also, feel free to use 'enchanted slumber' as an opt-out if you want to keep one or more of your characters out of the action.

( Under a cut because man, so many ways to make lives difficult. )

Can your character break whatever curse has been laid upon them? Maybe! It's really up to you. If they can't figure it out, at least they'll only have to deal with it until sunset. Which, on that particular date, should hit at 7:37 PM. At that point, any bizarre afflictions your character has been dealing with will vanish.

Feel free to use this post to brainstorm, or to ask any questions you might have.

Jazzy and I have been discussing recently how enjoyable it is to inflict your own unpleasant situation onto your characters. It's cathartic. And then you're not suffering alone. Or something. Laura is sick right now, and we thought, you know what would ease her pain? The TARDIS getting sick. With alien flu? Rift flu? I guess. I mean, she can't get sick with a regular flu. And then that opened up the possibility of other people who don't usually get sick (like certain people who live in the TARDIS inside an illness-free bubble) getting sick. Which excites us, because we like to cause suffering. Or I do, at least, but I'm a Scorpio, so.

And then we thought, hey, maybe other people might want to get in on this, if their characters are for whatever reason invulnerable to illness, like a lot of them seem to be. It doesn't have to be a serious illness. Colds alone are brutal. We just thought we'd put it out there if anyone else wanted to participate. ~~ALSO IANTO WILL GET TO DISCOVER HIS POWERS WOOOOOOOOO~~

I suddenly had the desire to make gifsets based on scenes from RP. I mean there's no guarantee I'll do it because I'm astonishingly lacking in focus, but even so I started thinking about what quotes would be great, and now I'm curious...

What's your favourite quotes/interactions from this game? Whether recent or ancient history.

Thinking mostly humorous slant here, but anything really.

For those characters who didn't have specific heights listed, I went off a mix of actor height and average height (by age in the cases of Calliope and Melanie). And um, here's a chart of the heights I used. (Should be editable by anyone.) Please do give corrections if you think someone's off. I mean I didn't really consult people sO THINGS COULD BE OFF, but that is fixable.

I used this page (thanks, Ollie) to get the sizing, which you can use if you want to compare specific people. I just really like having the visual reference.

Hey folks! Since Jay's new and overwhelmed, Iman is teaching him the hallowed rifty tradition of drinking away your culture shock. And everyone is invited! Well, you know, within thread-bearing-capacity reason. If a lot of people want to partake we can probably start separate threads or whatever. We can play it by ear. I trust us.

The adventure started and will continue to happen here, backdated August 5th. Note that this is the day after the last dream party. As of post-time, they are not yet in the bar, but they will be shortly. Iman will be taking Jay to a place where he'll fit in, a flamboyant cabaret bar in West Village called The Duplex.

If you want to party but can't find a reasonable excuse to get your character there, I'm sure we can handwave something. Iman can probably tap into the faction networks on her phone and she could send out a text invite, for example.

Hi-ho, Carrie the mod here! Since no one objected to the calendar freeze idea, it's officially happening. LET IT BE WRITTEN.

The waking-world calendar freeze is effective immediately, and occurring on the IG date of August 8th. Backdating anything on or before August 8th is allowed and encouraged (including any totally hypothetical arrival posts).

The dreaming freeze is a bit more nebulous. Because of the crossover, we will still be posting our dream party on December 29th, but since it's happening during a freeze, the party has to technically occur on the evening of August 8th/morning of August 9th. Backdated dreams are allowed and encouraged. And, in the interest of giving everyone ample opportunities to entertain themselves, we're also going to just say that the evening of August 8th and morning of August 9th has been stretched by the rift. Characters can dream as much as they want on this evening, because time is an illusion and look, over there! A BUNCH OF DRUNK MONKEYS!

The calendar freeze will end on January 5th, 2015, taking us to the IG date of August 9th, 2013. The holidays will be over, and we'll also have that first weekend in January to continue catching up on things. If necessary, we can push the freeze another week, but hopefully the current plan will suffice.

Hello, fritterlings. Carrie here, sans lunch, because the lunch was a lie. I just wanted to quote MST3K. Ten points to anyone who knows which episode that line is from!

Anyway. Two orders of business.

Order the First: There is still quite a bit of backdating going on as we approach this crossover event, and I know several of us are getting pretty overwhelmed. In the interest of mitigating that, the other mods and I are fully on board with the idea of another calendar freeze while we try and get caught up. Since we don't want to bork the crossover or ask another community to cool their collective heels while we play catch-up, we'd keep the Dreaming chugging along until our party post goes up at the end of the month, but the waking world calendar could halt anytime.

What are your thoughts on this? How much time do you anticipate needing? Personally, given our general propensity for backdating into infinity and the busy holiday season, I don't think it would be at all unreasonable to keep things in stasis into January, but I also don't want those of us who aren't struggling to get bored.

Order the Second: Given how much is going on, this seems like a great opportunity for an OOC gossip post. What have your characters been up to? What, if anything, do you have planned for their near futures? Let's all get caught up on everyone else's business! This could also be used for some future plotting; we can throw our non-busy characters at one another while we let the busy ones get back up to speed.

You can never have enough information and spreadsheets and references to organise and keep track of RP, right?

I made a spreadsheet for relationships between characters, which anyone can edit.

It's colour-coded after "familiar" - yellow, "friendly" - green, "roomies" - blue (presumably also friendly), "lovers" - purple (presumably also friendly), and "enemies" - red. Canonmakes are indicated by bolded text. And if you'd like your text to be a bit more specific, you can do that too.

Aaaaas was previously indicated, I am here to tell you about another new location - Aziraphale's bookshop, which he made out of the remains of the Radio Shack that used to sit next to Sunshine's bake shop. It's going to be a pretty good imitation of his original book shop from Good Omens, which is described thus:

"Aziraphale collected books. If he were totally honest with himself he would have to have admitted that his bookshop was simply somewhere to store them. He was not unusual in this. In order to maintain his cover as a typical second-hand book seller, he used every means short of actual physical violence to prevent customers from making a purchase. Unpleasant damp smells, glowering looks, erratic opening hours - he was incredibly good at it."

If you're good at driving customers away, you are WELCOME. You should also be prepared for the extreme possibility that he and Crowley will be lingering in the back getting heinously drunk and/or getting busy. There has been talk of Sunshine and Spike using it for a similar purpose - an easy makeout access point, since Aziraphale fully plans to add a hidden door right into the bake shop behind a bookshelf. Makeouts and other interactions that are likely to make the average passerby uncomfortable are going to be laterally encouraged.

I may make an open post at some point for any curious wanderers to come in and be appropriately disappointed.

Let's talk about Glaser's Bake Shop, shall we?

So, as established in this thread, the bake shop where Sunshine works has recently become much less of an in-and-out, grab-a-pastry-and-leave sort of place. Thanks to Aziraphale's efforts, it's now a proper sit-down cafe. With coffee! ~~And blackjack! And hookers!~~

Plenty of Sunshine's friends already know about the place (if not about the recent divine renovations, which will seem to the average observer to be How It's Always Been). Now that the place is more conducive to hanging out for a while, I'd love to see it turn into another little rifty hotspot - a bit like Wilmot's End, only with less booze and more desserts. I will probably put up an open bakery post every once in a while, but if you'd like to have your character stop by, ping me and we'll work something out! Also, I think it would be pretty sweet if characters wound up just hanging out there without Sunshine's active involvement, so feel free to set a post there, and we can just handwave that Sunshine was busy in the back/off that day/whatever.

With Ellis's assistance, I've been coming up with some NPC coworkers. Sunshine is in the back a lot, so any visitors will probably end up interacting with one of them, first.

Joel is the pudgy, scruffy, hipster-y barista who mans the coffee station ~~which has totally always been there~~ and exudes world-weary snark, but most of that snark is saved for his coworkers, not customers. IMPORTANT EDIT: Joel is the WORST.

Liz is usually behind the counter, ringing people up and getting their orders out of the display cases, though she can also cover the coffee station without any trouble. She's tall, unflappable, and unfailingly polite until you're out of earshot. When she's not at work, she's creating awesome multi-track covers of pop songs in which she sings and plays all the instruments, and then she posts them on youtube, where she has almost 10,000 subscribers and growing. (And she looks a bit like Laura Mvula.)

Casey wanted to be a sous chef, but this was the best gig she could get. The newly expanded kitchens are treating her well, though, so any visitors not in the mood for sugary concoctions should be braced for magnificence.

Miriam is one of the co-owners. She divides her time between a little office in the back (where she number-crunches and talks to suppliers) and ostensibly helping Liz behind the counter. She likes to talk to the customers and make sure everyone's happy, and she will probably show you pictures of her grandkids if you hold still long enough.

Arlo is the other co-owner. He's usually in the bakery with Sunshine, or the kitchen with Casey, making metaphorical magic happen. Generally speaking, he's a sweet old German teddy bear. But if you mess with one of his ~~unofficial children~~ employees, he will end you.

And every now and then, when Sunshine is on her break or what have you, the other three younger employees get together and play Which One Of These Weirdos Is Sunshine's Boyfriend. The tweedy one? The blue one? ~~It can't possibly be the 90s one.~~ They just don't know.

So, YEAH. That is what is happening there.

It should probably also be mentioned that Aziraphale will have a small establishment right next door, where the RadioShack used to be. Expect further details from Ellis in the coming days.
