The Big Applesauce OOC

Hello, fritterlings!

You know what we haven't had in a while? A proper event, with shenanigans and goings on! To that end, we've decided to arrange a little something for everyone's collective entertainment.

Here's the plan, as it currently stands: on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 3rd (April 14th-17th IRL), Jack Frost is going to decide to whip up a little snow storm. Nothing too drastic, just enough to give the kids a snow day on Wednesday. It'll be fun, right? He's all about fun!

The Rift, unsurprisingly, will not be wholly on board with someone else having the temerity to dick around with the weather. But hey, if Jack wants a snowstorm so badly, the Rift can lend a metaphorical hand. As a result of the Rift's 'help,' Manhattan (and the surrounding boroughs) will get slammed by a truly atrocious blizzard. We're talking high winds and space debris, low visibility, lots of snow, and the potential for spotty power outages - particularly around buildings that Rifties tend to frequent. Probably just a coincidence.

The blizzard will continue throughout the night, leaving the city pretty well buried by morning. As the 4th wears on, the weather will warm, and the snow will start to melt. It'll be sloppy for the next several days, but atmospherically, things will return to normal.

What your characters get up to is largely up to you. The severity of the storm will make it difficult for most characters to carry on as if nothing is happening, but if they have enough food in the pantry to get them through 24 hours, they should be fine just waiting it out at home.

Otherwise, there are plenty of possibilities! Characters could get caught out in the sudden storm and need rescuing. Characters could hole up with a friend - or a stranger - and get snowed in for a while. Maybe the power goes out, and people have to huddle together for warmth. Maybe they're safe at home when the worst of it hits, and enjoy a nice romp in the snow the following day.

Kathryn here! Life has been crazy today because Christmas party (great timing!) and I'm about to leave the house only to return late in the evening.

The crossover post at wethelost is up, though, and you should definitely check that out! It looks like you can do top-levels there as well as tag into WtL characters' dreams, as Zephyr has grabbed up our characters' dream threads. I'll be putting my own up later tonight, once I get home from the dreaded office Christmas party (really it's actually going to be quite nice but still).

Season’s greetings! What’s that you say? It’s summer in Manhattan? No, clearly it is time for a winter holiday event. In the open spirit of the monthly dream parties, Big Applesauce will be participating in a 4th wall/crossover event with a game called We the Lost (wethelost) in December. WtL is panfandom game the same size as Big Applesauce, set in a small bubble world called the Meadous owned and operated by a godling named Zephyr (divinefluff) who collects lost characters in need of a home.


The Short Version:
There is going to be a dream-based crossover with another community. The initial dreams will be posted by them, and we are welcome to crash them; the final dream will be posted here and take the form of a typical dream party. Their game only allows characters who have previously appeared in other games (referred to as CRAU); all characters from Big Applesauce automatically qualify to appear in the portion of the event being held in the other community, as do any who have appeared in our dream parties.


The Long Version:
It’s winter time in Zephyr’s world, and Zephyr has decided to celebrate by creating a dream-sharing environment in which dreamers are able to set up their ‘ideal winter holiday.’ This can mean a Christmas or a New Year’s party, a Winter Solstice Celebration, a Leavings Party, a day of sledding, a murder spree in the snow… whatever your character personally would find enjoyable during the winter holiday season. This part of the event will take place in We the Lost’s comms starting on December 13th (August 8 in BA game time). Zephyr will be drawing in dreamers from outside their world (the more friends the better, right?), and characters from Big Applesauce and other games will be allowed to participate in the event log and other dreaming activities.* Characters will not be physically transferred to the WtL world, but will only be present in dreams, similarly to how BA’s dream parties work.

Now, the bad news for Zephyr is that a little thing like having some of its playthings’ minds pulled out of its Dreaming and into someone else’s for several days/nights in a row is not going to escape the Rift’s notice. The Rift will be paying attention, and it will not be happy about sharing its toys. Taking someone else’s toys, though? That it can get behind. On the day of BA’s monthly dream party (to be posted December 27, which will be overnight from August 11-12 in BA game time), the Rift will snatch all those dreaming minds out of the Meadous and over to its side of the multiverse. The non-Manhattanites’ minds will get pulled back to their rightful place ICly on August 12 and Zephyr will close down the shared dreaming for fear of further influence from the Rift.


*For the We the Lost log of this event, 4th Wall characters brought in must be CRAU. However, CRAU characters DO NOT have to be from The Big Applesauce to participate. The nature of Zephyr’s abilities and the Rift’s power will allow for CRAU characters from ANY game to participate. CRAU means that your character has participated in a game or long-term dressing room. The participation in a game may be brief, such as one of the BA’s dream parties or a canon 4th Wall Event at another game.
