An Interlude
Jun. 1st, 2014 08:27 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
So, during the events of this post, Sunshine accidentally leaked some of her magic onto one of the trees outside the bake shop where she works. Whoops. Accidents happen.
Accidents also have consequences, and after debating whether to make an open post about it or just write it as an interlude, I went with an interlude. And here it is.
It's not super consequential, though I'd say it's recommended reading if your character is likely to visit the bake shop and has sharp ears.

Notes on the Upcoming Dream Party
Mar. 25th, 2014 04:37 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hey, all, it's your friendly neighborhood mod, Carrie.
We're doing something a bit different with this month's dream party, and we thought it only fair that everyone be given a heads up regarding the theme so you can mull it over a bit before the actual post.
In this party, your character is going to find that they now have a dæmon: a physical representation of their soul. If you've read or are familiar with Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, you already know what we're talking about. If not, here is a brief run-down of how dæmons work.
Dæmons take the form of an animal. They can talk, and are of equal intelligence to their respective people, though their personalities might differ slightly (a brash person might have a cautious dæmon). They are usually (but not always) a different gender from the person to whom they belong (the books are a little gender essentialist on this point, so use your judgment). Most dæmons can only travel a short distance from their person (say, five to ten feet) before it becomes intensely painful for both parties, and it is taboo in the HDM universe to touch someone else's dæmon. Someone can touch their own dæmon, and dæmons are free to physically interact with one another, but to touch someone else's dæmon is a gross violation at worst (and shockingly intimate at best). This is because there is shared sensation between a dæmon and their person, so if someone else touches your character's dæmon, your character is going to feel it in a big way - someone is literally touching their soul.
It should be noted that unless your character has reason to be familiar with the HDM universe, they are not going to know about the no-touching rule - or, indeed, why they suddenly have a talking animal following them around. (The dæmons, for their part, are probably confused at being suddenly manifest - they know their names, and they know their people, but they aren't any more familiar with the rules and etiquette than their people are.)
The form a dæmon takes is a reflection of their human's personality. A person who is eager to please and with a subservient streak might have their dæmon take the form of a dog, for example. Consider what sort of traits your character possesses, and what kind of animal might embody those traits. IT'S FUN! Feel free to drop any questions you might have here, and I'll break down one of my characters in the comments as an example.
Edited to add: this is a pretty decent 'what would your dæmon be' quiz, if you find that sort of thing helpful.

Character analysis fun
Mar. 22nd, 2014 10:50 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
So I think you guys may have caught on how much I love personality analysis?
I came up with a fun way to explore our characters' strengths and weaknesses, and also their own perceptions of theirs and others' strengths and weaknesses.
SO there's this thing where you have to pick the traits you think most apply to yourself. It's called a Johari square. And then other people pick the traits they think apply to you, and you compare what overlap there is, what strengths others see in you but you don't, which flaws you think you have that didn't occur to others, etc etc.
SO how about we do that for our characters! One set as ourself for our characters, and one set as our characters for themselves.
Positive/neutral traits square and negative traits square.
How about I start with Lucy?
Out of character
Vote for which traits you (the player) consider Lucy to have (and then compare with what I thought). Sign with your name.
Positive
Negative
In character
Vote for which traits your character considers Lucy to have (and then compare with what Lucy thought of herself). Sign with your character's name.
Positive
Negative
Ofc if you have multiple characters, you can do it for each of them. And then you can even have them vote on traits for one another! Which I will probably do, cause I'm nerding out here. (And will probably sit around and analyse the results later on.)
Also, remember that when creating the squares, they need to have unique names, so you need to have a different name for the OOC and IC squares. (I went with 'essentiallyharmless' and 'LucyCole', but I suppose you could go with anything.)
AND BECAUSE I'M SO HELPFUL, and because I really want you to do this because it's great fun and also really good character analysis exercise, here's even a thing for you to post your comments with links to you character squares!
I'm gonna go ahead and post for my other characters once I'm not half-asleep wheee.

behind this door: everything

Everyone needs to go read this meta on Journey To The Centre of The TARDIS about the World Tree and the TARDIS as a Goddess. Because that's come up a few times here.
And then open this and this together, and take a trip through the time vortex! Be sure to play with the controls for best effect.
Now dump neat things about your characters in this post so I'm not the only one. >.>

Sorting hat
May. 1st, 2013 09:34 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Because I'm bored: Which Hogwarts house would your character belong to?
If you don't already know, take this sorting quiz as them!
I prefer the Pottermore quiz, but it's a bit of a hassle to create an account and play through several chapters just to find out. (But then you also get to take the wand quiz, so, hey!)

Modly post and shenanigans

So, some of you have been slacking on the RP front (you probably know who you are), so I'm here to encourage people to come back and play more. We miss you!
Also if you want to do some plot or something but you can't think what, just say the word and we'll come brainstorm with you.
Also happier, yay for people using the network and dream comms. :D And the dream event post was AWESOME fun, so thanks for that!
And because yes, social shenanigans - let's this an Unflattering Pictures post!
Post ridiculous and unflattering images of your characters! :D

Character chibies
Jan. 6th, 2013 03:04 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I am bored, and I also want to encourage people to post more random stuff here, so I'm going to lead by example.
I came across a cute chibi maker, and now I am making chibi versions of my characters. Have fun doing the same in comments, or linking to other dollmakers. Dollmakers is like a guilty pleasure of mine.
