Hello, fritterlings!

Since the fall of the factions, the game has been a bit wanting in the antagonists department. Sure, the Rift is always there to jerk its toys around, but sometimes you get those manly urges and you just want to kill something. Or at least punch something. Or put something in a secure cell and painstakingly label it with your handheld label maker, neat and tidy-like.

Well, the ~~mods~~ Rift has heard your pleas, so it's gonna just start dropping monsters out onto the streets of Manhattan like a mascot firing t-shirts out of a cannon. Want to find one? Want one to find you? Do it.

What kind of monsters? It's up to you! Ollie has been compiling a list of potential beasties. Feel free to use one, or feel free to make one up.

Ground Rules:

1.) The monsters will be steered by the players encountering them as opposed to being mod-driven NPCs. This should save everyone time and hassle.
2.) Whether you're taking a monster off the list or making one up yourself, be sure it's added to the google doc, and to make a note of what you're doing under the 'status' column. This should prevent accidental doubling up, and just generally help us keep track of what's currently loose on the streets or smeared across an alley or what have you.
3.) Tag any monster-related shenanigans with the 'event: monster mash' tag. This will also help the mods, Ellis, and Ollie keep track of the beasties.

Comments? Questions? Ideas for monsters? Feel free to use this as a post to brainstorm horrors from the deep, etc.

I keep freezing up every time I try to type this, I don't know why. I just have so many ideas floating around in my head and I thought maybe instead of not doing anything with them, I could do something with them. I just want to throw them all down here and run away. Oh my god, why is this making me so anxious.

For far too long nice people with relatively good intentions have been coming through the rift. Maybe something a little strange should come through. Maybe something that EATS YOUR DELICIOUS SADNESS. 'My characters are so sad and they could use a break.' Well they will sure get one when their bodies become overloaded with dopamine and seratonin and they become impulsive and manic and eventually die of a heart attack! So I was thinking when Seth goes all power-snatching-happy during the rebel takedown, he ends up taking WAY TOO MANY powers than he can actually hold, so he's forced to give some away (possibly by accident).

So if anyone wants an additional power for their character, heyo! Hit me up!

Though bear in mind he probably won't give away something like super useful/powerful, at least not voluntarily, but then it doesn't have to be voluntary sooo.

Hello, fritterlings. Here is the latest word on the faction takedowns.

On IG September 4th (technically now IRL, but we're going to backdate it a bit because inciting events are still happening and backdating is how we do, here), three things are going to happen.

Thing the first: Andrew, James & Co. are going to badger the Rift into letting them go home.
Thing the second: the Rift is going to throw an epic tantrum in response because hdu.
Thing the third: said tantrum will allow interested and motivated parties to go ahead and fork up ROMAC's ship, ultimately resulting in the faction's fall. ~~SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS that joke goes out to Lu I'm here all week tip your waitress.~~

Sometime in the next week(ish), two open posts will go up. One will be for general Rift shenanigans (this can take whatever form players choose; pretty much anything goes), and one will be for forking up ROMAC. Players are free to throw their characters into whichever scenario they feel like getting involved in. It'll be a hot mess.

Several days after the dust settles in the Citigroup tower (aka a couple weeks down the line in real time), it'll be the Rebels' turn for some ruction. Daine is largely going to be leading the charge on this one, but again, all will be welcome to get involved to whatever degree they so choose (though it's going to be presumed that anyone living in the base will be relocated, because the base is not gonna be livable by the time Daine's done with it). An open post will go up, much like with the Rift shenanigans/ROMAC takedown business.

The goal is to say that by IG September 10th/11th, everything will have calmed down and anyone rendered homeless by the ruction will have been resettled elsewhere. For the sake of convenience, the buildings that currently serve as the Rebel and ROMAC apartments will continue to function as rifty housing. They'll just lose their faction-specific affiliations.

I've been toying with the idea of making some changes to Rashad for a while, and now that I've been talking about him taking some serious damage during the attack on ROMAC, the faction takedown plot seems like a good time to make it happen. The issue with Rashad as he is is that without his own emotions or motivation beyond keeping himself fed, all he really does is lurk and make a handful of people miserable.

Solution? Give the boy his own naturally occurring emotions! He'll be switching back and forth between his present, emotionless self and a state in which he's capable of feeling emotions the normal way, either at random or in response to stimuli on which I haven't decided yet. He's going to be very unhappy about this during those times when he's capable of feeling unhappy, as he is 100% not the slightest bit equipped to deal with having emotions that just happen and change while he was in the middle of feeling something else and are appropriate to the situation and all that other weird, inconvenient stuff mortals' emotions do. Also, remorse? Remorse is for other people, he would like to return that faulty emotion for a refund, thank you. I think this might also result in a change to the way in which he feeds. Maybe during those times when he has his own emotions he's just getting a slow influx of the ambient emotions of the city without being tied down to experiencing exactly what's coming in.

Anyway, here's the part where I need help: Rashad is going to be very badly injured during the attack on ROMAC, and in order to repair himself afterward he's going to have to steal a whole lot of energy from someone. When he's in that bad of shape it's not a conscious decision on his part, and the last time that happened (during his arrival in Manhattan) he accidentally killed a human bystander. I'd be open to him killing one of the characters who's currently expected to die, killing another NPC, or feeding off someone more powerful who can survive the hit. While I could handwave something in him being damaged that causes the change in how he processes emotions, it would be a lot cooler if it was the result of someone deliberately trying to do something to him to stop him going around being the soul sucker we all know and hate.

It's important to note re: the attack on ROMAC that Rashad could get scary powerful if he has time to feed on the anger and panic that will be in the air. Depending on who's going to take him down and how, we need to either arrange for him to be taken out of the fight early on or for someone who can deal with an intangible living fireball to be present.

It occurred to me that a certain Event will tie into the stuff just prior to the planned faction destruction junction and that Event may have some significant character-specific repercussions, that character being Seth and anyone else who wants to be affected by the Event in question, which is this:

Daniel is going to die.

But don't worry! He does it all the time! Really, he does! More specifically, he's going to die and then Ascend, which means he'll still exist on a higher plane as a glowy wavelength of celestial intent until he can figure out what the heck's up with this wacky universe. I wrote a thing about Ascension a gazillion years ago (beware the spoilers) and what that entails, but obviously there's going to be a lot of power-nerfing that I can explain in more detail once the thing happens. There's gonna be a fair amount of build to this point, but basically the idea is that once Andrew and Co. break the Rift it's going to throw a Rift-tantrum and Daniel's gonna be part of the collateral damage.

This is all pretty subject to change, but it will in all likelihood happen juuuust before the faction teardown begins. He will still be interact-able once he's dead and Ascend-ified, but if you have anyone you want Daniel to meet and be affected by his death or just encounter in a regular human way, it'd probably be a good idea to do that while he's still...you know, around.

It's a tentative, flexible plan currently. Though we do still need someone to tell Seth "hey um sorry so about that guy you like?? he's dead sorry bro" so he can be upset about that

So you probably know Seth has a bone to pick with the rebels and all that, and for ages now he's been wanting to go in and steal back some of the powers he gave them while he was locked up, and chances are when the rebel base goes down he's just gonna end up grabbing anything he gets his glowy hands on.

I have info on his powers here, both current and ones I'm proooobably gonna give him at this event.

SO DO YOU HAVE ANY FUN POWER SUGGESTIONS??? Literally anything, practical or super ridiculous or just fun twists on familiar ones or whatever.

By which we mean that we as a mod team have come to the measured decision to ~~WRECK SHIT~~ bring about a shift in the game's setting by eliminating the faction system and making knowledge of the Rift and its victims public. We want to reduce our dependence on NPCs and the machinations of shadowy, mod-operated organizations, and now that we have a number of powerful and/or influential player characters in the game the factions are no longer really needed for the purpose of providing for new characters' basic needs.

While we do have a basic outline of how the factions are likely to be dismantled, we want all our players to have the opportunity to get involved. The core idea is that a significant number of powerful/dangerous player characters will grow increasingly agitated about the actions of both factions, and they'll have an opportunity to do something about it when the Rift throws a fit over an attempt to manipulate it into sending people home. With Rift shenanigans happening all over the city, ROMAC's resources will be spread thin and the organization will be vulnerable to attack. Then, once ROMAC is dismantled, the Rebels will attempt to fill the power vacuum, likely taking prisoners and committing other unsavory acts along the way and prompting a secondary attack by player characters that puts an end to their organization and renders the base under Central Park uninhabitable. The two takedowns will take place within a few days of one another.

While a number of tentative plans have been made for various characters' involvement, nothing is set in stone and we would like for anyone interested in being involved with this plot to leave a comment here about what they would like their character(s) to do. Please check the comments to this post to see what other players are doing and to make suggestions of your own. If you don't know what you want to do but you want to get involved, leave a comment saying so and telling us what your character can do and we'll help you generate some ideas.

For those who don't want to get involved in the plot, it will be possible for your character(s) to sit the attacks out and/or face interference from the Rift (localized storms, sudden transformations, time loops…shenanigans) that prevents their direct involvement. This plot is not going to occur immediately due to the amount of buildup necessary, but please give us your input now and we will let you know when the events draw nearer.

spike's timeline thing is no longer accurate. Gonna be backtagging stuff with him for a bit. just consider him passed out on his floor with no one looking for him ;_; I wanna get him involved with the curses but i may be a bit slow on getting there. I'm also backtagging some stuff with gabe but i should be tagging into some new stuff with him soon (Kathryn, we need to get him and peter together! we can talk about that one)

Jazzy and I have been discussing recently how enjoyable it is to inflict your own unpleasant situation onto your characters. It's cathartic. And then you're not suffering alone. Or something. Laura is sick right now, and we thought, you know what would ease her pain? The TARDIS getting sick. With alien flu? Rift flu? I guess. I mean, she can't get sick with a regular flu. And then that opened up the possibility of other people who don't usually get sick (like certain people who live in the TARDIS inside an illness-free bubble) getting sick. Which excites us, because we like to cause suffering. Or I do, at least, but I'm a Scorpio, so.

And then we thought, hey, maybe other people might want to get in on this, if their characters are for whatever reason invulnerable to illness, like a lot of them seem to be. It doesn't have to be a serious illness. Colds alone are brutal. We just thought we'd put it out there if anyone else wanted to participate. ~~ALSO IANTO WILL GET TO DISCOVER HIS POWERS WOOOOOOOOO~~

Hey guys --

I've come to the decision that after I've played out some current events with Andrew, I'm going to drop him. He'll probably still show up in dreams, but given where he is in his story (and given just how ridiculously long I've been playing this version of him) there's just not a lot I still can/feel like doing with him in the game proper and I want to devote my energy to other characters.

Andrew and James are going to find a way to take their babies and get the hell out of Manhattan, but first I'm going to play out the storyline of him getting blackmailed by ROMAC to help them in the search for Melanie. His babies are going to get taken away, Aziraphale's going to put a whammy on him to prevent him from revealing Melanie's location once he figures it out, Daine's going to help with a baby rescue, we're going to handwave James finding a way to needle the Rift into sending them home (after which the Rift will probably have a tantrum)...lots of stuff planned, so the actual drop is still a ways off in the future. If you want to be involved in anything going on with him before he goes, drop me a line and I'll get you caught up on the full plan and we can figure out where to get your character(s) in there.

For now and to kick off certain planned events, there's an open dream post in which everyone can come meet a naked Andrew. Feel free to pop into that whether or not we've got a planned outcome!

Hey folks! Since Jay's new and overwhelmed, Iman is teaching him the hallowed rifty tradition of drinking away your culture shock. And everyone is invited! Well, you know, within thread-bearing-capacity reason. If a lot of people want to partake we can probably start separate threads or whatever. We can play it by ear. I trust us.

The adventure started and will continue to happen here, backdated August 5th. Note that this is the day after the last dream party. As of post-time, they are not yet in the bar, but they will be shortly. Iman will be taking Jay to a place where he'll fit in, a flamboyant cabaret bar in West Village called The Duplex.

If you want to party but can't find a reasonable excuse to get your character there, I'm sure we can handwave something. Iman can probably tap into the faction networks on her phone and she could send out a text invite, for example.

Hello, fritterlings. Carrie here, sans lunch, because the lunch was a lie. I just wanted to quote MST3K. Ten points to anyone who knows which episode that line is from!

Anyway. Two orders of business.

Order the First: There is still quite a bit of backdating going on as we approach this crossover event, and I know several of us are getting pretty overwhelmed. In the interest of mitigating that, the other mods and I are fully on board with the idea of another calendar freeze while we try and get caught up. Since we don't want to bork the crossover or ask another community to cool their collective heels while we play catch-up, we'd keep the Dreaming chugging along until our party post goes up at the end of the month, but the waking world calendar could halt anytime.

What are your thoughts on this? How much time do you anticipate needing? Personally, given our general propensity for backdating into infinity and the busy holiday season, I don't think it would be at all unreasonable to keep things in stasis into January, but I also don't want those of us who aren't struggling to get bored.

Order the Second: Given how much is going on, this seems like a great opportunity for an OOC gossip post. What have your characters been up to? What, if anything, do you have planned for their near futures? Let's all get caught up on everyone else's business! This could also be used for some future plotting; we can throw our non-busy characters at one another while we let the busy ones get back up to speed.

Remember when I was a thing? Me neither! But I had a prophetic dream and now I am back, I guess. I just have a little housekeeping that I need to... housekeep. So long ago that I can't even remember how long ago it was, Ianto did a thing and then texted Topher for backup, and though we never played it out I vaguely recall Krissy and I agreeing that somehow Ianto got to some hospital somewhere. He then fell into a coma and was essentially stuck in the dreaming. That all was sort of a thing that kind of got established in some threads in the dreaming.

There was a lot more to this plan that never got played out. There was gonna be this whole thing with Zagreus and his powers and this frankendoodle sort of deal and then this hilarious thing with Cecil that I started and never went anywhere with. I kind of started a thread about it, obliquely referenced the whole situation in a few dreaming threads, and then dropped every ball forever, which leaves me in a weird spot trying to pick up those balls again, or something, metaphors.

That was the old 'what's happened'. Here's the new 'what's happened': Ianto went to the hospital and fell into a coma and got stuck in the dreaming. THERE WAS NEVER ANY FRANKENDOODLE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. It has been retconned into nonexistence. I don't even know what this post is about because none of this is even a thing. A lot of you won't even know what this post is about because this whole plot was never really cemented within the game and knowledge of it mostly spread to like three people via IM.

So that's where Ianto is at now. Well, sort of. He's going to be up and about soon, which is what heralded this whole 'what the fuck do I do with all these balls' thing. The dreaming post I put up is his last hurrah in the dreaming before he really comes back to the game proper. I just wanted to let everyone know about the balls. I guess if Ianto mentioned this situation to your character (I think he mentioned it to Johnny and I know Laura I know) then we can talk about how to selectively retcon between us if you need/want to.

Okay, Krissy here, first of all this is just to say that I am dropping the Eighth Doctor.

I haven't been playing him much at all lately, haven't had the urge to do plots with him or anything. Soooo, he's getting shafted, poor dear. I had intended to just retire him, since the TARDIS shouldn't be left all on her own in this terrible universe, but now WE HAVE A TWELVE, Eight can actually disappear properly, and I don't have to like.. make up reasons he's not in threads or something.

And second thing is, uhh, I don't know how many characters actually fill this requirement, but is there someone who a) has been rained on, and b) would have a reason to be at the rebel apartments around midday the 31st?

It's just that Seth is currently sitting in the hallway of some random floor, and crying about his ~~boy~~friend ignoring him. I was gonna have him find out about the logistics of the fading out from simply texting Johnny, but if I can actually make it into a thread interaction, then that could be fun. (It will also eventually lead to stealing a snake, if whichever character would be into that, but he can do that on his own too.)

Sooo in a spontaneous character decision made in this here thread right here, ol' Illyria is starting off with a couple issues on top of the ones she already has.

SOME SPOILERS FOR ANGEL SEASON FIVE LIE AHEAD. I mean Illyria herself is kind of a massive spoiler but fair warning?

Proceed with caution!

For those not familiar with Buffyverse canon, this self-destructive smurf person doesn't actually have first claim to the body she's using. It used to belong to one Winifred "Fred" Burkle, a badass nerd from Texas who was ten types of adorable and of course had to die horribly because this is Joss Whedon we're talking about at this point it's just a given.

Allegedly Fred's soul was destroyed resurrecting Illyria in a nasty parasitical invasive process, but Illyria's able to mimic her form and mannerisms pretty well. Like, worryingly, frighteningly well. And falling through the Rift may have stirred up a little more than some latent memories for the body Illyria's walking around in. Basically this means that pre-body-horror-tragedy Fred might start leaking through at unexpected times. She has none of Illyria's memories and practically none of the memories of the horrible biological transformative process she went through before Illyria nommed her soul. The last thing she remembers is actually the last normal morning of her life, just before any of the awful things happened. So that will be fun.

It's not so much that there are remnants of Fred still hanging around; it's more that they're two entities sharing the same body. Fred doesn't remember anything Illyria's said or done since the full possession happened and Illyria won't remember anything Fred says or does in the times when Fred gets her body back. It might take a while for them to work up an awareness of each other. So far it seems that getting Illyria drunk brings out her "inner Fred," so to speak.

I haven't planned any Big Important Plot Things ahead for these two. There was just kind of that potential for character drama and dichotomy and so now it's two characters for the price of one, essentially. If there's anything anyone wants to do with this, feel free to kickstart exciting plotty things. Right now Illyria's been rained-on but once she becomes 100% visible again, anything goes.

So I have a little plot going with Spike- the only blood he's been able to get is stuff with weird fillers in it. And for some reason, it's not working great. Up till now, it's been okay, but over August his condition is going to deteriorate pretty quickly. By the end, he passes out completely, and after a temporary solution from Aziraphale, Sunshine's boss get's a long term fix for him.

Since it's making him generally tired, i'll be putting up a couple dream threads which should be fun along the way. Probably a mix of his history and random junk. Whee. If you wanna see any particular bit of Spike's history/have an idea for a weird dream lemme know and we can set up a thread.

But. A month in-game is a long time out of it, so I made a little calendar for just where in his stages of fucked-up Spike will be at any given time: It's HERE for your reference.
